i'm fine...my car? see for yourself.

so as many already know...i was involved in a car accident this weekend. yes, i'm okay. no, my car is not okay. here's the story...

saturday morning i woke up wanting to put off my run for sunday...i decided to go out for my run anyway because later on i had a massage scheduled. if i put it off for sunday, i would be more prone to injury since all my muscles would be "loosened up." finished my run. dashed home for a quick shower and off to the coffeehouse. darrell (my massage therapist) loves americanos. so i decided to pick one up for him on my way.) once i was on the table, i experienced nearly two hours of the best massage i've had in awhile. well, there's an exception to that...there's someone i know...or used to know...that gives the most amazing shoulder rubs! but...i digress. i usually leave from my massage appointment with my head in the clouds...this time...nope! i felt great! darrell worked on my neck, back, arms and shoulders as usual. and since i've started running, he suggested working on my legs and feet. WOW! he worked my hip flexors, hamstrings, quads, calves, shins and feet! all this being deep tissue...so at times pretty painful!

when i left...i headed straight home. on 159 and bethel mine rd/hollywood heights rd, i was stopped at a red light. after a second at the light, i look in my rearview just in time to see a white jeep cherokee headed my way FAST! i thought to myself "i should get out of the way before she..." BBBBBBAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!! "...hits me!" (while looking in my rearview, i also noticed her veering towards the left lane of traffic instead of towards the shoulder...so, i knew the person in this vehicle had to be an inexperienced driver.)

so...the cop (illinois state police) made it there about 20 minutes after the accident...(tons of rubberneckin' going on while we waited. a few glances around my car and i felt dizzy. her airbag deployed, was now smoking, and the horn on her vehicle was blaring nonstop. some guys from the used car lot came over and somehow stopped the annoying noise.) the trooper asked if i needed medical attention and with my background, i said yes. (as an xray tech, one of the most annoying situations i come across are people that injure themselves in a car wreck and then do nothing about it...that is until 6 months or even a year or two later. the one thing you should always insist on immediately after an accident is medical attention. even if you "feel fine." personally, my neck was killing me and my shoulders were burning with pain. well, of course, the ambulance has to come take me. and c-collar me. and strap me to a backboard. blech. all i wanted was to get checked out! not strapped down! after 4 1/2 hours at the ER and 3 pain med prescriptions, i was cleared to go home...how to do that? my car was not drivable and left the scene of the accident by way of tow truck. in comes autumn to the rescue! she drove up to maryville, picked me up and to show her my appreciation...i treated her to bobby's frozen custard! yummy!

i have yet to hear about the possibility of car repair or if all hope should be abandoned...and the car gets totaled. i've begun the grieving process for my car. it's my baby. i remember wanting an eclipse since age 16! and when i finally got one...it was like lester burnham in american beauty when he finally gets the firebird he's wanted since he was a kid.

so without further delay...here's what my car now looks like... :(

My computer is almost finished. Yay! I am one step closer to coming out of the dark ages.

Oh poor Raquel! We wondered where you and Autumn were!
Did they find anything wrong with you? What was up with the other driver? Did you get out and yell "Oh no you di'nt!"
I am still mourning for my car, even though it's been a month. I loved my little fuel efficient Mazda :(
