don't eat the yellow snow!
yes folks...it is currently snowing...yesterday being the first day of spring and here we are with about 2-3 inches so far. unbelievable. so, i'm enjoying my first cup of coffee and trying to gear up for the 35 mile drive to work. i wonder how many people are gonna be on my commute that have never driven in snow before! hehe. on saturday, i finished my first pair of socks! i had set them down for about a two week time period because i couldn't catch up with mae, the beaded fiber patch owner, who was teaching me how to do them. well, saturday, i went to the shop, and made it my day's goal to close them up and get them off the needles...i did two socks on two sets of circulars at the same time. definitely the way to go...you finish one, you finish them both!!! i can't wait to get working on other pairs with all my new delish yarn from sunshine yarns. dani is amazing with her colorways and the yarn will knit up into great socks, i'm sure. want to know where to find her? here you go! http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=4375
enter at your own risk! i have found etsy to be highly addictive!
the girls are doing great...they actually are starting to run around (in the house and outside) and play with one another. it's funny to come home and look for what izzy has brought out from hiding...sometimes a sock from the laundry, a whatnot from the office trash bin (yesterday, it was a chia goo needle case for size 15, 24 inch length), she doesn't destruct or chew...it's just a quirk of greyhounds...bring owner possessions out and into their living area. always funny.
well, the drive beckons...i better finish getting ready and head out!

backtracking...
so...i can't believe it's been five days since my last post! let's see...the 12th was the last time i posted and that was before i headed out to gor for a drive, grab a coffee at the coffeehouse and whatnots. the day seemed to be going great when i waked into the coffeehouse and unexpectedly ran into my mom. under any other circumstance, this would be an ideal run in. we would sit outside, chitchat, have a coffee or two and most likely hang out for the rest of the day. unfortunately, this is not the case at the moment. my mom has bipolar disorder and is (and has since around christmas) in the midst of a manic phase. as close as my mom and i are, i have avoided her for some time because i just can't stand this person she becomes. i can easily say it's been at least a month since i last spent anh time with her. and running into her on sunday made me realize all the things i hate about her illness. her gaudiness with clothing and jewelry, her spending, her random thoughts vocalized (which many times i feel this with myself...sometimes i worry that "i'm next" because of my enthusiasm in conversation.) here she was at the counter buying a coffeehouse shirt, a smoothie, a latte, several pieces of baklave, a piece of cake, a dozen or so biscotti and leaving liz a five dollar tip...for crying out loud, she spent $60 on everything! meanwhile, there were two snobby girls, probably in the late teens/early twenties age range staring at her...so, here's my issue with this whole scenario...wrong as it may be. they're staring at her, probably because of her eccentricities, they told me otherwise later on in the story. i wasn't embarrassed to see her...just taken aback...caught off guard. i'm used to her guadiness now. well, as my mom is walking out and i'm following her to see her "new car" (an $80,000 dollar cadillac she claims to have purchased for only $21,000) i whisper to the two girls..."better get one last look before she leaves." omg! i couldn't believe i actually spoke those words to two complete strangers! well, what i mess i had to deal with when i came back in to order my drink. i immediately apologized to them and immediately one of them rolls her eyes and says in a very catty tone, "that's the least you could do...you should be sorry." whatever remorseful streak came through me outside to come back in and apologize to them just as quickly disappeared and left me wanting to deck her square in her fat nose! ugh! fake as this bitch is and she's telling me how i at the very least owe her an apology for my comment! i swallowed my pride and once again said how sorry i was for my comment however, my mom is mentally unstable (as i'm soon to be) at the moment and i didn't appreciate her staring. once again, her bitchy attitude prevailed. one more time, i explained that i hadn't seen her in over a month and walking in to find her there caught me off guard...i was solely reacting on emotion and what i said to them was innappropriate and i realized that...i guess my obsession at that time was for them to understand the nature of this illness, becuase it is so misunderstood. not only for the one suffering from the illness, but for family, friends and society involved with that person. and just like that, i started balling! i took off for the restroom, shut the door, sobbed uncontrollably all the while trying to reach my sister by phone. no luck. well, that meant i had to get it together on my own. no sis to the rescue. so, i cleaned up my face, walked out and told the girls one last time how sorry i was for offending them with my comment. they were nicer...i don't know if that had to do with my crying fit or what...and looking back on it now...gosh, how stupid! how immature did i behave? so what if they were looking at her? so what if i blurted out a comment to them i wouldn't have otherwise? who cares? instead, i had to get them to accept my apology...to understand...when all along they (and i) were completely ignorant. i guess that's why they say hindsight is 20/20.

letting go...
so...for now it seems like the rains have let up. i'm pondering whether i want to go to knitting today or not...i love going and try to never have an excuse to not go but i just have so much crap to get done today. yeah, i guess i'm just one of those procrastinators. wait till the absolute last minute and baam! feelings of being stressed and overwhelmed take over and i'm in overdrive. i exhaust myself that way. i guess this is even more reason why i should quit the coffeehouse. for anyone that doesn't know me (ie blogsurfers), i am a full time xray tech. i mainly am a mammographer...yes...that's right...i inflict torture on at least half a dozen women every day. (actually, i don't-i pride myself in being as gentle as possible while getting a diagnostic exam from even the most sensitive of patients...stay tuned...you might catch me bitching about patients...no names...all HIPAA laws observed here.) anyway, back to the point! i work 40+ hours per week. this does not include commute time. because brook and i carpool together...that puts us at work from 8-5 monday-friday. so, 45 hours there. commute time is on average 45minutes to an hour each way. (i know!!! now you see why we carpool!!) so, we have approximately an hour and a half to two hours each day commuting. you're looking at 55 hours a week dedicated to work and travel. yikes! and granted, i know these numbers are nothing in comparison to other people...more power to those working superduper overtime. so the coffeehouse...i've been there for coming up on four years! (chanting...four more years! four more years!) not gonna happen! for some crazy reason, i feel the need to keep working there. granted, i work every other saturday 1330-1830. but taken into the context of the amount of hours i'm putting in at the FT...that cuts into some desperately needed down time. put into perspective, i'm not working 3 days out of every 2 weeks. so, come full circle with me here folks...the 3 days i have off i want to spend doing nothing. N-O-T-H-I-N-G! no housework, no cooking, nothing that means i have to work anymore!!! so, what was once the love-of-my-life job...barista extraordinaire...has now grown to be an ugly monster that thieves five or so hours of my precious saturdays...so, sadly...i have come to the unfortunate conclusion that i must quit. and oh, i've done this before. but the pull to the espresso machine was too strong to resist. i would tell our manager..."well, let me know if anyone needs a shift covered or if i can help out whenever..." back on the payroll i'd go! i don't want to quit. i love it there. (i swear...pictures are coming...you'll see the coffeehouse, my dogs, my knits...soon enough!) but the time has come for me to let it go. ugh. i hate letting go...

rain, rain, go away...
so, ugh...today, yesterday, heck, it seems like all week...it's been raining. nonstop. i'm starting to feel a lil bit soggy. besides the fact that no one can drive right when it rains. and i'm sure at times that includes me. i'm not exempt from the idiot driver status. although, i do drive fast. or so i've been told. so, i'm building my yarn stash quite extensively and have yet to start a new project. maybe i should finish the few i have going first. i swear. there will be pics up here soon!

just a lazy sunday...
so...the past few days. hectic. i thought i took time off from work to have "downtime." instead, i booked my open schedule. vet appointments, not to mention the part time gig...forgot to schedule off from that job. how lame to take a four day weekend and have to work smack dab in the middle of that weekend! oh well.
i will say in the midst of all this chaos i created, i did find time to schedule a "me time" appointment. at the spa. facial. well deserved rejuvenation. one and a half hours of continuous pampering. ah. love it!
in other news, i received my delicious yarn yesterday! hand dyed merino wool. it will make some gorgeous, crazy socks. can't wait! the artist? dani...you can find her beautiful work at www.etsy.com her shop is sunshine yarns...her blog? knittingsunshine.blogspot.com
and of course, the original purpose of the four day was to intergrate my 2 dogs. meet stella. my girl for the last 8 years. chocolate and white german pointer. i love her. never imagined having a second dog considering how possessive stella can be. well, i up and did it. i adopted a greyhound by the name of izzy. she is 9. older, i know. but perfect for pairing with stella. if i figure out how to post pics, i'll have those up soon. i now have 2 beautiful girls! the intergration? so far, so good. the only time i get real nervous now, is during feeding time. i don't worry about leaving the two of them alone, like i did initially. so, yeah...that's it!
right now...i'm enjoying my morning coffee. cinnamon twist. music-leaders of the free world by elbow. the girls are watching american beauty. not that they really care. the highlight of my day today will be the 'oscar party' with my knitting group. we're all getting together, watching the debut of stitchcraft, followed by the oscars and filled with snacking, drinking and lots of chatting.
