this is one of my all time favorite things to do on sunday mornings...behold. the belgian waffle! unlike autumn, i love belgian waffles!!! granted my iron does not make hello kitty waffles...but it's the uber cool kind that once you pour the batter, you close the lid and rotate the iron 180 degrees to allow proper filling on both sides...
once the waffle is ready, i like to pour piping hot maple syrup-yes, real maple syrup...not the maple flavored corn syrup-over the waffle one bite at a time. tedious breakfast work, i know. this technique was developed by my sister and i adopted it for my own personal use. i tired of reaching the end of my delicious waffle only to discover it was cold and soggy...the bite by bite technique allows for hot, crispy bite after hot, crispy bite. yum. and of course, what would breakfast be without a steaming cup of java? a touch of vanilla, a generous amount of cream. *swoon*
of course, the part i hate most about the sunday ritual is...the cleanup. my waffle iron may be amazing in the "making department" but it leaves much to be desired in the "cleaning department." i resort to qtips. yes. i'm that obsessesive with cleaning the iron. if nonstick spray doesn't get wiped off, it becomes not so nonstick. more like a gooey, sticky mess.
the best part about the sunday ritual, well, at least what stella would tell you is the best part...is the test waffle. stella knows the test waffle is HER waffle. she goes crazy for the test waffle. what is the test waffle? it's the first one i make. usually gets a little crispified (i know that's not a word...) stella doesn't care. she prefers it crispy. she also has a difficult time sharing the TW with izzy. i have resorted to making two TWs.

Well gee maybe if you make me some waffles in your fancy scmancy waffle maker I might just give waffles another chance..:P
