i never thought i'd see the day

your eyes do not deceive you. that is me. wearing BOTH welt fantastic chevron striped socks knit with sunshine yarns in grapevine. i couldn't be happier to be finished with them! best of all?? it sparked my knitting groove again! now...don't expect me to churn out projects left and right! but, yes...i'm back.

if it weren't for my long arms

in several circles of friends, i am the go to person for group self portraits. either i'm really tall or i like having friends that are shorter. not short. just shorter. hey! i'm almost six foot ok??? that means each one of my arms is about two and a half feet long. but...that's not long enough when i'm making desperate after desperate attempt to self portrait my backpiece. this is what you get... a partially blurred yet quasi decent image of session #7.

stats? here ya goes!!! :)

  • 2.5 hours (14.5 hours)
  • $125 work ($1045)
  • $55 tip ($305)
  • 1 bottle fiji water and 1 bottle snapple iced earl grey tea...*swoooooon*
  • 1 break for trevis to have a smoke...and again. no peeking!!! (my own rule of course)
  • 40 miles (280 miles)
  • area worked on: remainder of koi body. he stopped about 12 scales shy of completing the body...and the tail fin remains too!
  • colors used: yellow, orange, red, black

trevis continues to amaze me! the tattoo is one or two sessions away from being finished. i'm getting teary-eyed thinking about it! and i would love thoughts or comments on this...but whadya think about me asking him to "sign" it in some fashion? well hidden and small. but something to mark it as his work. is that an odd request? or am i just basking in tattoo afterglow??? ;)

a change is coming...i can feel it.

the lack of posts. well. i can't make excuses. i have time to write. but i don't. and this has left me thinking that my blog needs a makeover. a redirection. more focus. there will be a number of changes you might notice. some more obvious than others. i don't know what direction this is going just yet...i have entertained the idea of a food blog. and even a vinegar blog (don't ask!!! it's a joke really...) my time off from work has afforded me a rare opportunity to realign my focus on my life...and this is an area i would like to shed some of that focus. an avenue for me to be more...me. and all that said, the past year has definitely been a blog focused on me. but this time, i want it to focus more on the internal issues and struggles with some of the more intimate, private catacombs of my world. one of the areas definitely in need of a once over is the title. knitting was and still is a wonderful, relaxing escape. however...i find myself not wanting to do it right now. and i assume that's pretty normal. i only learned to knit two years ago. i just don't feel very dedicated to fiber right now. and i don't feel having a blog named "random acts of knitness" denotes that i'm an avid knitter...but it does make it sound like i knit. and i haven't. yet...i'm still toting that damn second sock around...painfully working a row or two here and there. just call me linus. and that damn sock is my blanket. anyway...the ideas are brewing. i just need a little more time to decide on logistics and technicalities. any suggestions???

late. i know. here is the result of session 6. and realistically...i probably have 3 sessions to go. and because i've been such a slacker...here are the stats. (with updated versions of sessions 4 and 5 also!)

  • 2 hours (12 hours)
  • $125 work ($920)
  • $40 tip ($250)
  • 1 bottle iceland pure water (aka bjork tears), 1 goshen latte...carefully & lovingly crafted by someone with so much more patience than i could possibly muster.
  • 1 break (and have i ever told you? during breaks or anytime during the tattoo process...i never look!? i wait till he's done...and then. look.)
  • 40 miles (240 miles)

what's your crime?

inspired by squaresville who was inspired by blackbird who was inspired by alice in connecticut who was inspired by jane

my crimes???

constantly thinking of my other half on the other half

buying into too many craft interests

quitting my full time job...for me

staying up all night to start and finish the first season of sopranos

going down the rabbit hole

resisting coming back up from the rabbit hole

never mailing in the application packet the first time

enjoying the thrill of procrastination

drinking too much coffee

wanting the backpiece to be finished

full-body bowling

finding any excuse for pho and cafe su dua

being known as the one that knows

being so tired that the original "my crimes" didn't save to draft and these were the only ones i could recall. and damn it. i had a pretty fabulous list of crimes.

dude...

only because lil'sis bullied me into this post...well. kinda. it was long overdue anyway. results of session 5. trevis worked an hour and a half on the koi's head. and why didn't we go the usual two hours? i believe trevis is the type of artist that works in segments. that is...if he worked two hours it would have seemed to be abandoned mid work. you know? so by working on the head and stopping there, the tattoo looks complete although it's far from it still. yes. still. at this session, he estimated at least 2 but more like 3 or 4 sessions until it's considered finished. and i'm fine with that. i just keep thinking that i'm almost done...and. i'm. not.

stats...

  • 1.5 hours (10 hours)
  • $120 work ($795)
  • $40 tip ($210)
  • 1 magnificent goshen latte with free latte art included, 1 roast beef, cream cheese, lettuce and tomato on country white from 222 artisan bakery...(goshen and artisan are housed in the same beautifully located shop...it's a mom&pop kinda business. coffee & bread. two of my life necessities.)
  • 1 break
  • 40 miles (200 miles)
  • area worked on: koi head...intricate detail made this the smallest area worked yet. colors used: white, yellow, red, orange, black, blue, green.

"told you it'd be a porker!"

eavesdrop on autumn and i having conversation on the topic of food and you're bound to hear any combination of snippets from the following movie clip. namely the bits italicized. and because the reciting occured today (as most days...) i decided once and for all to accurately transcribe the clip...name that movie!!! (and all typos are intended...for german accent emphasis!)

"i am eating zee vwonka bar and i taste zumting dat is not chocolat...or coconat? vwalnut? or peanat butta? or nougat? or butta bwittle? or caramel? or schrpinkles? so i look and...i find zee golden ticket!"

"augustus...how did you tselebrate?"

"i eat more candeeee!"

if it wasn't this, it would be nothing. deal.

in my new found free time...i spend most evenings at home. laptop on the arm of the couch. movie playing. movies that have scenes i no longer need to watch because i've damn near memorized the whole script. so. i watch you tube. hey! i don't have cable out here in the boonies. so. i turn to redneck tivo. ;)

and has anyone seen this video? effen hilarious! i think one of the remakes i can actually say i like better than the original!!! (and i haven't resorted to blog posts of only videos to waste your time watching...i have a few posts still in need of finalizing.)
